January 10, 2022) Pakistanis living in the UAE have to be extremely careful as the authorities have warned the residents against publishing or circulating misleading information or rumors about Cocorona security measures. Violators could face up to two years in prison and a fine of up to 200,000 dirhams, citizens were warned against mocking security measures.
According to the Khaleej Times, the Federal Public Prosecution, Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Prosecution said it had seen some social media posts mocking the country’s covert safety protocol, with some highlighting Corona’s positive cases. There were calls for isolation and quarantine with video or audio clips.
The prosecution further added that such posts mocked the efforts of the authorities in the country to effectively control the spread of the virus. Contrary to what is reported in the media, using the Internet to publish, spread or disseminate false news, rumors or misleading information is punishable by up to one year in prison and a fine of up to 100,000 dirhams. If false news or rumors provoke public opinion against state officials or occur during epidemics, crises or disasters, the violator could face up to two years in prison and a fine of up to 200,000 dirhams. Social media users are called upon to be responsible and to assist the authorities in enforcing code security measures.
